A Liquid Grid

Description
New York City, September 2023. I was looking down from my hotel room on a day when the rain seemed determined to take over the city. Not just rain, but a massive storm. Streets flooded. Transportation stopped. People couldn't get into the city. Plans changed. From above, though, I kept looking. The city was still a grid. Crosswalks, streets, windows, balconies, buses, buildings, people moving below. All those hard lines and patterns that make New York feel like New York. But between me and all of that was a sheet of glass covered in rain. Flare, reflections, water, distortion. The grid was still there. It just wasn't quite so solid anymore. And somehow, the city kept moving.
